Bengals’ quarterback Joe Burrow has made history by becoming the second player ever to win the NFL Comeback Player of the Year award twice. Burrow previously won the award in 2021 and has now joined Chad Pennington (2006, 2008) as the only two-time winners.
Burrow’s remarkable comeback story began after he suffered a serious wrist injury in the 2023 season, which required surgery and forced him to miss the final seven games. However, he made a stunning return to form in the 2024 season, leading the NFL in several major passing categories, including passing yards and touchdown passes.
The 28-year-old quarterback’s impressive performance earned him numerous accolades, including the AP Comeback Player of the Year award. Burrow’s achievement is a testament to his hard work, dedication, and perseverance. As he mentioned recently, “That one I would be proud of… It’s not exactly an award you want to be up for. But if you’re up for it, you might as well try to win it”.

The team’s director of sports medicine and head athletic trainer praised Burrow’s work ethic and attitude, saying, “There’s no question that if anyone is going to come back from something that you don’t see very often in this game, it’s going to be Joe Burrow”.
The 2025 NFL Honors ceremony saw several other notable winners, including Josh Allen as AP Most Valuable Player, Kevin O’Connell as AP Coach of the Year, and Saquon Barkley as AP Offensive Player of the Year.
As Burrow looks to the future, he is expected to lead the Bengals back to the playoffs in 2025. With his impressive comeback story and numerous accolades, Burrow has cemented his position as one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL.
