NBA legend LeBron James has come out swinging in defense of his son, Bronny James, who has faced intense scrutiny following his debut with the Los Angeles Lakers. Despite the overwhelming spotlight and lofty expectations, LeBron James praised his son’s character and work ethic during a recent appearance on the New Heights podcast. 
LeBron James painted a picture of a grounded and dedicated young man, far removed from the criticisms leveled against him. “If you ever meet Bronny, you’ll realize I’m such an idiot to look down on him,” the four-time MVP shared. “He’s the most chill, easy, fun kid in the world.”
Bronny James’ stats may not be jumping off the page just yet, with only 9 appearances in 37 games, averaging 2.4 minutes and 0.4 points per game. However, his famous father is more concerned with the person he’s becoming. LeBron James acknowledged the immense pressure his son faces as a second-generation NBA player, but expressed pride in Bronny’s perseverance, particularly after a life-threatening cardiac arrest in 2023.
“Having to deal with all the things he’s dealing with and still be able to come back… I think that’s going to make him even greater,” LeBron James said.
The NBA legend also clarified that Bronny James chose basketball for himself, and that he has the freedom to pursue any path he desires. “He doesn’t have to play basketball at all. He could do whatever he wants to do. He could be the CEO of my company if he wanted.”
