The Kansas City Chiefs’ 23-14 victory over the Houston Texans has sparked intense debate, with many questioning the officiating that led to two critical penalties. The calls, which resulted in 10 points for the Chiefs, have fueled allegations of favoritism towards Kansas City. Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs’ star quarterback, has now broken his silence on the controversy.
At the center of the debate are two key plays. The first involved a roughing-the-passer penalty on Texans defensive end Will Anderson Jr., who made slight contact with Mahomes’ helmet after the ball was released. The 15-yard penalty led to a Chiefs field goal. NFL Senior VP of Officiating Walt Anderson later explained that any contact with the head would likely result in a flag.
The second questionable call came in the fourth quarter, when the Texans appeared to sack Mahomes, only for the referees to flag Houston for unnecessary roughness.
