The Dallas Stars have finally reached the end of a grueling stretch of 11 games in 19 days, and they’re breathing a sigh of relief. With a 2-0 shutout victory over the St. Louis Blues on Saturday, the Stars capped off an impressive run that saw them go 7-4-0 despite facing a daunting schedule.
The win was a testament to the team’s resilience and determination. After an emotional 4-3 win over the Vegas Golden Knights on Friday, the Stars traveled to St. Louis and put on a gritty performance. Goalie Casey DeSmith was instrumental in the win, making 33 saves to earn his 12th career shutout.
The Stars’ victory was also a result of their ability to capitalize on key opportunities. Evgenii Dadonov scored the opening goal on a breakaway, thanks to a clever tip pass from Jason Robertson. Later, defenseman Esa Lindell added an insurance goal on the power play, courtesy of a precise pass from Roope Hintz.
Despite being outshot 14-6 in the second period, the Stars buckled down in the third and limited the Blues to just seven shots on goal. DeSmith’s impressive performance was a key factor in the win, and his teammates were quick to praise his efforts.
“He’s a great teammate, first off, a really hard-working guy,” said coach Pete DeBoer. “And when you’re that kind of guy, the guys want to play hard for you.”
The Stars’ win over the Blues was a significant one, not just because of the shutout but also because of the team’s growing chemistry. Lindell and Hintz, who will be teammates on Team Finland for the 4 Nations Face-Off in February, showed off their connection on the power-play goal.
As the Stars look to build on their momentum, they’ll take a well-deserved break before facing their next challenge. With a 31-17-1 record and 63 points, they’re firmly entrenched in second place in the Central Division. As DeSmith noted, “That’s what good teams do. It’s playoff-style hockey. That’s the kind of game we have to bring to the table if we want to win.”
