Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day recently appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where he was asked about a tweet from Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James. In the tweet, James wondered aloud about his college eligibility and whether he could play football for the Buckeyes. 
Day, who led the Buckeyes to a national championship victory over Notre Dame on January 20, was put on the spot by Fallon. However, he handled the question with ease, showing his admiration for James while also emphasizing the challenges of playing college football.
“Well first off, LeBron is a huge, you know, fan of Ohio State, and he’s been a great supporter,” Day said. “With that being said, he’d be right in line with the freshmen in the back of the room, he’d have to work his way up, I mean he doesn’t get any special treatment.”
Day’s response drew a compliment from Fallon, who appreciated the coach’s honest and humble approach. It’s worth noting that James did play receiver in high school at St. Vincent St. Mary’s High School in Akron, Ohio, from 1999-2003.
While the idea of LeBron James playing college football may seem far-fetched, it’s interesting to consider the possibilities. James has always been an exceptional athlete, and his physical abilities would undoubtedly make him a formidable presence on the football field.
However, as Day pointed out, playing college football is not just about physical ability. It requires a tremendous amount of hard work, dedication, and teamwork. Even someone as talented as LeBron James would need to put in the time and effort to succeed at the collegiate level.
In the end, while LeBron James may not be suiting up for the Buckeyes anytime soon, it’s fun to imagine what could have been. And who knows? Maybe one day we’ll see James on the gridiron, showing off his skills and proving that he’s still one of the greatest athletes of all time.
