The Kansas City Chiefs’ thrilling victory over the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game was a testament to the team’s depth and resilience. One player who stepped up in a big way was wideout/special teamer Nikko Remigio, who made a significant impact on the game with his impressive returns. 
Remigio’s night didn’t get off to the best start, however. After calling a fair catch on a first-quarter punt return, veteran tight end Travis Kelce challenged him to step up his game. “I had fair caught that first punt coming out the gates and (Kelce) was like, ‘That’s not being great, bro,'” Remigio revealed on the “Up & Adams” podcast.
Remigio took Kelce’s words to heart and made good on his promise to make something happen on his next opportunity. He turned a 45-yard punt into a 41-yard return, flipping the field and setting up a scoring drive for the Chiefs. The ensuing drive culminated in a one-yard Patrick Mahomes rushing touchdown, and Remigio’s impressive special teams feat drew praise from Kelce himself.
“(Kelce) was the first one to greet me coming to the sideline and he was like, ‘That’s how you be great, dawg,'” Remigio shared. “I was like, ‘This is a dream.'”
Remigio’s breakout performance wasn’t limited to his punt return. He also averaged an impressive 26.8 yards across four kick returns, showcasing his versatility and value to the Chiefs’ special teams unit.
As the Chiefs prepare to face the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII, Remigio’s performance serves as a reminder of the importance of dynamic returners in big games. With the Lombardi Trophy on the line, the Chiefs will be counting on Remigio and the rest of the special teams unit to make a significant impact.
For now, Remigio and the Chiefs will head into their clash with the Eagles as FanDuel Sportsbook’s -1.5-point Super Bowl favorites. With their sights set on another championship, the Chiefs are ready to put it all on the line in New Orleans on February 9.
