The New York Knicks gave Jalen Brunson a royal welcome back on Sunday night against the Phoenix Suns.
OG Anunoby was happy to show Brunson what he was missing as the Knicks took down Phoenix by a 112-98 final at Madison Square Garden. He was a perfect 7-of-7, including 5-of-5 with an extra point on the line, helping the Knicks built enough insurance to withstand a furious Phoenix rally that whittled a 19-point lead down to five in the fourth.
The Knicks had just enough firepower left to post a 13-4 run over the final 2:27 that included Brunson’s crucial triple. Anunoby capped things off with a 360 dunk that sent MSG into hysterics. It was an easy way to preserve the Knicks’ 54.1 percent success rate from the field. Combined with Saturday’s win in Atlanta, the Knicks have shot at least 53 percent in consecutive games for the first time since Feb. 11-1Towns had a 19-point, 13-rebound double-double while Mikal Bridges added 22 tallies. Brunson was rusty in his first foray since the injury (3-of-9 from the field) but his only successful three-pointer of the night gave the Knicks a lasting double-figure lead in the last stanzas.New York’s returning captain also tied for the team lead with six assists with reserve Cameron Payne, who was joined off the bench by Miles McBride. The backup guard had eight points and a pair of assists and steals each after five games off with a groin contusion.
The struggling Suns, missing Kevin Durant to an ankle injury, dropped their sixth in a row and lost another game in the race for the fourth and final Western Conference Play-In Tournament spot (now 2.5 out with four to play). Booker scored 40 points in defeat
