The Kansas City Chiefs are gearing up for another thrilling season, but they’re not without their challengers. According to defensive tackle Chris Jones, the Cincinnati Bengals pose the biggest threat to the Chiefs’ reign in the AFC.
Jones’ assessment may come as a surprise to some, given the Bengals’ failure to make the playoffs in the last two seasons. However, Jones believes that injuries have been a significant factor in the Bengals’ lack of success, and with a healthy roster, they could be a formidable opponent. “I’m gonna say the Cincinnati Bengals… They’re always at the cusp. Unfortunately, injuries have played a huge part in their lack of success,” Jones said.
The Bengals have indeed shown promise, with quarterback Joe Burrow leading the NFL in passing yards and touchdown passes last season. Wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase also had a monster season, leading the NFL in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdown receptions.
While the Bengals are a significant threat, Jones also acknowledges the strength of other AFC teams, including the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens. “You’ve got to look at Josh Allen. Josh Allen has played some of the best football ever played. Lamar Jackson, I mean, he’ll [probably] win MVP again,” Jones said.
The Chiefs, however, remain confident in their ability to defend their title. With a strong roster and experienced players like Jones, they’re well-positioned to make another deep playoff run. As Jones put it, “We’ve got so many good teams, man, that it’s hard to say… The Ravens will get there eventually. Cincinnati ended up being there, they’ve started to get there. The Bills are hungry”.
