As the Philadelphia Eagles prepare to face off against the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX, quarterback Jalen Hurts is drawing on past experiences to fuel his determination. The 26-year-old signal-caller played in his first-ever Super Bowl back in 2023, where the Eagles ultimately fell short against the Chiefs in a thrilling 38-35 contest. 
Despite the loss, Hurts put on an impressive display, completing four overall touchdowns and going toe-to-toe with Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. However, kicker Harrison Butker’s 27-yard field goal in the final moments of the game sealed the victory for Kansas City.
When asked about his memories of that fateful game during a recent media session, Hurts responded with a curt “next question,” choosing not to dwell on the past. However, it’s clear that the loss still lingers in his mind. In fact, Hurts keeps a screenshot of the defeat on his phone as a reminder, a habit he’s maintained since his college days at Alabama.
Hurts’ competitive drive and aversion to losing are well-documented. The Eagles’ quarterback has spoken publicly about the importance of learning from past setbacks and using them as motivation to improve. This mindset has served him well, as he’s led the Eagles back to the Super Bowl for a rematch against the Chiefs.
The 2024 season was a resounding success for Hurts and the Eagles, with the team defying expectations and making a deep playoff run. Running back Saquon Barkley was a key addition to the roster, recording over 2,000 scrimmage yards and 15 touchdowns. However, as Eagles center Jason Kelce noted, Hurts’ playmaking ability was instrumental in creating opportunities for Barkley and the rest of the offense.
As the Eagles prepare to face off against the Chiefs once again, Hurts will undoubtedly be drawing on the lessons he learned from that Super Bowl LVII loss. With his trademark focus and determination, he’ll be looking to lead his team to victory and bring home the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
