Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone has opened up about the one bitter loss to former 400m hurdles world record holder Dalilah Muhammad that shaped her worldview and made her the athlete she is today.
The two-time Olympic champion explained that she went into the 2019 World Championships in Doha, Qatar, confident of a win despite being very unprepared and due to that, she ended up finishing second.
Dalilah Muhammad claimed the win in a world record time of 52.16 seconds ahead of Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, who clocked the second-fastest time in the world at the time, 52.23 seconds. Jamaican Rushell Clayton rounded up the podium in 53.74 seconds.
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone explained that losing that race awakened a different energy in her and she gave credit to Dalilah Muhammad for pushing her to be the best version of herself each time they raced against each other.
